Men of the Ondo State Police Command have detained a 24-year-old
psychiatric patient, Iijisakin Ayoola after he reportedly stabbed his
60-year-old traditional doctor, Alfa Iliasu Waheed to death in Idanre.
The suspect reportedly stabbed the traditional doctor, who
specialised in healing psychiatric patients, in the neck with a broken
bottle which caused his death.
The suspect was said to have attempted to set the house on fire after stabbing the deceased.
Sources say the deceased was attacked from behind by the suspect who
drove the broken bottle into the neck of his doctor in his apartment.
The shout for help from the deceased attracted his neighbours who
rushed to the Police station in Alade‑Idanre Divisional Police
Headquarters, where policemen were promptly deployed.
Although, the victim was rushed to the general hospital, he died before any treatment could be administered on him.
The deceased, according to family sources, has been buried according to Islamic rites.
State police public relations officer, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the
incident, said the suspect escaped after committing the crime but was
later arrested.
Ogodo said the suspect, who was among the patients the deceased was
treating for mental disorder is presently being detained at the State
Criminal Department(SCID) while detectives are investigating the
immediate cause of the death.
“We will take the suspect to a psychiatric hospital to ascertain his
level of sanity before charging him to court because nobody has the
right to take another man’s life in whatever situation,” Ogodo said.
